Deming Prize

Deming Prize
A prize instituted in 1951 by the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers, in honour of W. Edwards Deming, one of the leading total quality management theorists, who introduced the idea that quality control should be a strategic activity led by senior management. The prize is given to companies that can demonstrate successful «company-wide quality control», using statistical process control techniques. Assessment is made in ten categories: policy, organization and management, education and dissemination, assembling and disseminating information on quality, analysis, standardization, control, quality assurance, results, and future plans.
